Durango Hellcat And Ram TRX Throw Down In Drag Race

Estimated read time 2 min read

To some, having two Hellcat-powered big boys race against each other on a drag strip might sound ridiculous, but those people are wrong. We’ve been wanting to see a Dodge Durango Hellcat go up against a Ram TRX just for the thrill of it and we finally have just such a Mopar grudge match.

Stellantis has dropped Hellcats for Segways.

Unsurprisingly, this originally was supposed to be the Durango Hellcat versus a modified Ford F-150 but the pickup broke, so the Ram TRX had to step in to fill the gap. And we’re glad it played out that way since the truck and SUV are running the same engine, at least in principle.

We say that because these vehicles are of course not stock, something we’ve come to expect from Hoonigan’s This Vs. That video series. It’s what makes these races so interesting.

The owner of the Durango Hellcat says it has “a little love” done to it. If that seems vague, well it is. But he does explain it’s running a gen three Whipple supercharger with smaller pulleys and an engine tune. Cold air induction and headers were also added, further assisting with the inhale and exhale of that fierce kitty powerplant.

He claims all that translates into “over 900” when it comes to horsepower. Just how far over is what you have to guess.

When it comes to the Ram TRX, it’s a single cab, so definitely not stock but instead built. We’ve seen only a few other single cab TRXs out there. By chopping up the pickup and ditching the rear seats, it sheds some weight and shortens the wheelbase as well as the driveshaft, boosting performance.

With some bolt-on mods, this truck is claimed to be pushing 900-whp.

Which do you think will win a no-prep quarter mile drag race? Make your prediction, then watch the video to see the results.
