Toyota Mega Cruiser Stirs Auction Excitement

Estimated read time 2 min read

It’s not everyday a Toyota Mega Cruiser becomes available to the public. The Japanese military vehicles which look quite a bit like a Humvee and are often confused for one aren’t plentiful to collectors. This particular one which hit an online auction recently is even more rare since it’s one of a mere 150 civilian units made.

Learn about the Rook law enforcement vehicle.

With a mere 36,000 kilometers on the odometer, the blue exterior and gray cloth interior looks impeccable, making this truck perfect for taking to car shows or any other swanky event for generating plenty of admiration and buzz.

And it’s been getting attention on Bring A Trailer, where the final few hours has seen the price climb rapidly. We expect in the closing minutes the back and forth will be both fast and furious.

Imported by the dealer that’s selling it on the auction site, this Toyota apparently has only been in the US since July 2024. Under the hood sits a burly 4.1-liter turbodiesel inline-four mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.

This is no sports car, but it will craw over trail obstacles, if anyone would dare risk the paint damage. After all, the transfer case has two ranges of gears like you’d expect on any proper off-roader, plus there are three locking differentials for all kinds of crawling and slogging abilities.

If that’s not impressive enough, this rig comes with a four-wheel steering system so you can maneuver around obstacles you can’t climb over with greater ease. Plus it comes with portal axles, three wipers for that massive windshield, a rear ladder so you can get to gear stored on the roof, and a swing-away spare tire carrier for an improved departure angle.

Most people likely didn’t even know they needed this rare military off-roader.At the time this article was written, the high bid was sitting at just under $60,000.

Check out the lot listing here, just remember the auction will be over by the time this publishes.
