This 1966 Chevelle is a real restomod beast with loads of horsepower. But you wouldn’t know that when the current owner acquired it, the thing was just a roller with no interior. It might not be much to look at, other than those nice body lines Chevrolet blessed the muscle car with, and with a budget hood and nothing in the way of aesthetic mods it’s somewhat of a sleeper.
Check out an old Jeep Wagoneer that’s packing the heat with a Redeye engine swap.
But pop that hod and you’ll find underneath a fire-breathing supercharged 6.2-liter LS V8 pumping 900-hp with 14 lbs. of boost and E-85. Since it was a old school drag car with a rollbar welded into the frame, the owner has honored that legacy and taken this thing racing.
The manual transmission is a T56 that’s been converted into a Magnum. That interacts with a multi-disc monster clutch. The rear is a Fab9.
The engine modifications came at a good deal, thanks to this car being featured twice on MotorTrend’s Hot Rod Garage. While that was a good deal for the owner, with an uncertain future for shows like that he and others might not enjoy such benefits again.
To balance out all that power there’s a RideTech suspension, including StrongArms control arms to add some stiffness to the chassis. However, the owner says the frame only has a few modifications, mostly additional crossmembers in the rear. He did check over the welds and ensure the frame was straight, so it hopefully doesn’t suffer a failure from all that power.
It’s also running Baer brakes with 6 pistons in the front and four in the rear. That seems to keep all this Chevelle reigned in enough.
As you can see at the beginning of the video, this Chevelle can roast tires and then some, including as it’s driving down the road. Even though it’s not overly pretty, it’s one hell of a machine, so check out the video to see it in action.
